Our hospital is located just off US-11 in the Marketplace Shopping Center; we share the plaza with Panera Bread and Lowe’s Home Improvement. We love to show off our state-of-the-art facilities, so please come visit and let us show you around!

Meet Dr. Stacy Laxen, Chief of Staff

Born and raised in Minnesota, Stacy Laxen, DVM, received a B.S. in Animal Science and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota. After graduation, she moved to Miami, Florida where she worked for two years as an associate veterinarian in a small animal clinic. Realizing she missed the change of seasons, Dr. Laxen made Syracuse home in May 2012, where she has continued her career as a small animal veterinarian.

Dr. Laxen's professional passion is animal behavior, where she helps people better understand and communicate with their pets, thus strengthening the human animal bond. Her professional interests also include internal medicine and cardiology. She is the proud mom of four rescue cats, Bossy, Monty, Evy, and Tux and also two goats, Nestle Crunch and Peaches. Her personal interests include running and watching Syracuse basketball.

Meet Dr. Alina Tsareva

Alina Tsareva, DVM, is an Associate Veterinarian at Total Veterinary Care in Cicero, NY. She is a graduate of Amherst College where she earned a bachelor's degree in neuroscience and of Cornell University where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to working with TVC, she has practiced small animal medicine in Auburn, NY.  Dr. Tsareva brings the special interests of dermatology in dogs and cats, soft tissue surgery and exotic animal medicine to our practice. 

Currently, she, her husband and son share their home with Hazel, a rescue pit bull mix with a distrust of veterinarians; Jelly Trip, a loving barn cat, who became part of the family after losing a limb to a coyote; Fuzz Buzz, a cat with a gigantic personality from Animal Care and Control in NYC; and Kitten, a fancy mouse who just likes to hang out with the cats!

Meet Dr. Melissa Ferris

Melissa Ferris, DVM,  grew up in the coal mining town of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, located in the (very) Southwest part of the state.She graduated from Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM) in 1995, after receiving her degree in Biology from Virginia Tech, in 1991.

Dr. Ferris moved to New York from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia where she spent 25+ years in a mixed practice focusing on small animal care and, occasionally, zoo animal care. She enjoys working through complicated medical and ophthalmology cases, bringing relief and comfort to her patients and their owners.

She moved to the Cicero area with her husband and two teenage children to be closer to extended family and in her spare time, she enjoys hiking, scrapbooking, cooking, and cheering on her two teens in their various activities.

Meet Dr. Amanda Armendariz

Dr. Amanda Armendariz (Dr. A/Dr. Amanda) was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, and received her bachelor's degree in Animal Science. She worked as a veterinary assistant for three years at a small animal practice in San Antonio before heading back to Texas A&M to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. In search of a change of scenery, she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she worked as an associate veterinarian for Banfield for two years before deciding to gain experience in ER medicine. Dr. A found herself moving to upstate NY after reconnecting with her best friend and now fiancé.

Dr. A's interests include endocrinology, ER medicine, surgery, and dental care. In her free time, she loves to spend time with her two dogs (Puddles and Wiggles) her two cats (Little and Poof), and now, her stepdaughter and stepson. Additionally she loves to crochet stuffed animals, play video games, and eat sushi.
